Surf(board)fishing 010922 - WOW
Wow, it was a nice day (a
few days ago). I was the king of the stage, as I caught fish after fish,
in the line-up at Doheny. The tidal swing was massive! And I just
about fell off my board, catching halibut after halibut... When I caught the
legal size keeper, the kayak guy offered to net my catch, but I said "Naaaaaaa"
and I landed the beast on my board and caught it by hand.
On a smaller halibut, around
20-inches, I noticed a red scar on it's belly as I was reeling it up, then I
turned it over, and saw the tell-tale pattern of a shark bite on it's
underside. A semi-circular pattern with teeth imprints spaced every 1/4
to 1/2 inch. Should have had a camera with me, but......the identity of
the offender is unknown.
There were halibut jumping from
the surface of the water, flailing as they glistened in the sun, and I must
have caught 30+ fish on a single lead-head. I wondered about the torn-up
fish I caught earlier...it was a fighter, hungry, and although damaged, put up
a stupendous fight! I released it back into the sea, to fight again.
I came home with one in my bag, although, deep down, I do not like to kill things to eat. I have to eat organic matter to survive...whether it be plants, or animals, I have to kill living things in my stomach to survive, but on a distant planet, on a light-bottom near a reef, the creature survives without killing...
